“I tried a vitamin IV drip for a health boost – here’s what happened”

I enjoy exploring new ways to improve my health, which is why my interest in a vitamin IV drip was sparked.

I’ve had vitamin B12 shots a few times and it was sore atrial fibrillation, so volunteering for a whole IV just didn’t seem worth it to me. Until I was chatting with a friend who recently found a “cool new IV bar in Camps Bay” and swore it was doing wonders for her skin. I’m as guilty as the next girl of chasing the glow, so I decided to take the plunge and give it a try…

Here’s exactly what happened…

When I entered the IV bar, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, but much to my delight, there were no hospital beds or creepy IV carts. Instead, I was greeted by friendly faces and wonderfully comfortable chairs. We discussed my needs and decided that Signature IV Therapy aka “Royal IV” would work best for me – with high doses of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

The very gentle and caring nurse administered my IV. It was slightly painful, but not what I built it up for (very often the case). And then I sat back, relaxed, and sucked on some candy (which counteracts the metallic taste you get from IV drips) while the 45-minute vitamin boost coursed through my veins.

Most people will know IV bars as the place where celebs go when they have a nasty hangover and need to get rid of it fast. And sure, you can do them. But MobivIVe offers much more than a hangover treatment, or what they call the “Babelas Beater”. They also administer infusions for pregnant women, people looking to boost their immune systems and avoid or recover from COVID-19, anti-aging, detoxification, energy boosts, high-performance athletes and more.

As for me, as soon as I stepped off the beautiful IV pole, my energy levels rose immediately. After that I met a friend for dinner and was awake and excited to see her. However, I wasn’t as excited as you get from a caffeine overdose; Instead, I felt a sense of calm. A few weeks later, I noticed my skin was glowing and I was sleeping better. However, as is typical for the time of year, I caught a bit of a cold. I know an “Immune Boost” IV with Vitamin C is just what I need to sort myself out… I think it’s safe to say I could be addicted.

Everything you need to know about vitamin IV drops

While these IVs are a mix of vitamins and minerals already in your body, it’s important to do your research and make sure whoever is administering your drip really knows. Here’s everything we all want to know about this latest health trend…

Which certificates etc. should you look out for before visiting the IV Bar?

Safety is crucial! You want to make sure that the intravenous vitamin center is connected to a doctor and that a registered nurse is administering the drops. Although these are vitamins and minerals and are considered very safe, you should ensure that the vitamins you receive are manufactured in a sterile facility and that the nurse has extensive experience infusing patients. Also, from a logistical point of view, you want to go somewhere that is welcoming, comfortable, and energetic. This isn’t a bad buy – it’s a voluntary choice and you want to enjoy your time there.

Are the infusions associated with side effects – during, immediately after or the next day?

There are no negative side effects at all – only the benefits! Very few people have reported a mild headache after the detox drip, but this is normal as the body is getting rid of toxins… it’s just incredibly rare. Some people bruise easily at the needle site, which is normal and usually not painful. However, most people do not bruise and immediately feel the positive effects of the energy and immune boost.
